Night Life

Double down at the blackjack table or double over at the comedy club. Dance to pulsing beats or pump your fist to falling pins. There's plenty of unadulterated fun to be had in Greater Phoenix, which is a hotbed for casinos , nightclubs and live music .

Old Town Scottsdale is known for its bars, clubs, lounges and restaurants in a well-rounded repertoire of nightlife. There are bars like Maloney's and Drift for the casual crowd, while dance clubs such as Devil's Martini , Axis/Radius and Suede turn up the beat – and the glam. Kazimierz Wine Bar has a hidden entrance, but once inside, it's a relaxing spot for a glass of wine, while Martini Ranch is the go-to for live music. But these are only some of the best places in Old Town. Just strolling the streets gives plenty of people-watching and excitement.

Central Phoenix has some hot spots that the locals know as their favorite places around. The Vig is an indoor/outdoor restaurant and bar that blends casual with sophisticated. With a bocce ball court, live bands, and fireplaces, there's always something new to do. Postino Wine Café is also known for their outdoors-inside space, and Merc Bar is a dark lounge that takes swanky to a whole new level.

Tempe is home to the main ASU campus, but also Mill Avenue, a brick street with bars built for a crowd young at heart. The Tempe Improv hosts some of the biggest names in comedy – and local shows – while The Big Bang piano bar turns a dark basement into one of the most lively and talented crowds in the state.

Welcome to Arizona's latest greatest wonder

Whether you are attending a seminar or lunchtime event, multi-day conference or formal gala at the Phoenix Convention Center, the experience will be one you will not soon forget – We guarantee it!

The Phoenix Convention Center, expanded in 2008, offers more than 900,000 square feet of meeting and event space and more than two million in total square footage, making it one of the top 20 convention venues in the United States.

Breathtaking building features
The soaring Arizona-inspired architecture of the Phoenix Convention Center is designed to share the wonders of our Southwestern culture, stimulate the imagination, and welcome guests to this premier meeting destination at the center of it all – downtown Phoenix.

The Sonoran Desert's natural environment, history and culture were the inspiration for our facility's design. Thousands of images of Arizona from cultural, historic and geographic points of view are combined with indigenous materials, stones and native metals to form our unique design concepts. Every detail – from colors and textures to lighting, angles and entrances – inspires guests to explore the marvels of Arizona.

Our cutting-edge audio-visual, telecommunications and information technology services are customized to fit any individual or group needs. For the best presentations, programs, connectivity, interactive programs and building automation, we will ensure your needs are met…and exceeded!

A commitment to art
Artwork expressing an array of contemporary cultural perspectives provides our visitors with moments of joy, inspiration and reflection. Ten diverse artworks are displayed throughout the center, featuring regional, national and internationally recognized artists. And if you're not careful, you may find yourself featured as part of an art piece! See what we mean by taking a tour of the varied and awe-inspiring projects.

The Phoenix Convention Center is fresh off a $600 million expansion that has transformed it into one of the largest facilities of its kind in the U.S. All told, the convention center boasts nearly 900,000 square feet of meeting and exhibit space. But size is only part of its story. Thoughtful touches include air-conditioned loading bays, exhibit halls with pre-scored floors, and outdoor meeting areas that capitalize on Phoenix's greatest natural resource — the sun.

The North Building

The four-level structure occupies a city block and boasts 635,000 square feet of meeting and exhibition space. It features a street-level ballroom, 11 exhibit halls, 56 meeting rooms and 20 climate-controlled loading docks.

Inside, thoughtful touches include exhibit halls with pre-scored floors for easy booth setup, an airy food court with five themed eateries, and outdoor meeting and pre-function areas that capitalize on Phoenix's greatest natural resource—the sun.

The North Building is linked to the neighboring West Building by both a glass-encased sky bridge and a substreet exhibition hall. It also showcases eight public-art installations and environmentally sensible features.

The West Building

The West Building houses 157,000 square feet of conference-style meeting and exhibit space. Its environs include a lecture hall, a grand ballroom and an adjoining performance center—all accentuated by a striking collection of public art.

A 90-foot-high glass atrium encases the West Building's lobby, which is ideal for large receptions. The lobby's huge glass door can be raised to create a dramatic, open-air environment.

Adjoining the lobby is the grand entrance to Symphony Hall, an elegant auditorium that seats 2,300. (Another spectacular performance space, Herberger Theater Center, is located directly across the street.)

The South Building

The South Building of the Phoenix Convention Center recently underwent an $18.5 million makeover in which no corner of the facility went untouched. Its exhibition halls, ballroom and meeting rooms have been adorned with new colors, carpet and lighting; every restroom has been remodeled; and WiFi coverage now extends to all public and rentable areas.

Over 33,000 square feet of space dedicated to this building, including 23 versatile meeting rooms and 28,000 square feet of ballroom space. The South Building also contributes to the total 143,000 square feet of exhibition space in the entire Convention Center.

Transportation:

Phoenix is proud to have a new light rail system in place that spans over twenty miles. It reaches from Downtown Phoenix both north into uptown Phoenix and east to Tempe and Mesa. This system provides access to even more art museums, shops, dining and attractions from Downtown. With 28 stops and a car guaranteed every ten minutes, the METRO light rail moves in a hurry. This is just another helpful option to connect visitors and meeting attendees to all there is to experience in Downtown Phoenix.

Orpheum Theater:

A grand venue

The Orpheum Theatre — recognized internationally as a premier showcase for the arts and entertainment — offers rich ambiance and a historic décor that is unique in the Phoenix area as a multi-purpose cultural facility.

An orchestra lobby in the style of Spanish Baroque Revival mirrors a medieval nobleman's art gallery, and the mezzanine level draws inspiration from the Italian Davanzati Palace. Within, you'll find the 1,364-seat Lewis Auditorium, dedicated to Jewell and Delbert Lewis and family. Plaster columns dressed in gold leaf accent the audience chamber. Gaze up at the hand-painted ceiling depicting a bright sunset turning into a starry, night sky.

Full-range sound, theatrical lighting, a communications system and other technologically advanced features support the most complex productions – from concerts and plays to corporate meetings and group celebrations.

Restored to its former glory

The Orpheum Theatre, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, has made more than its fair share of history with the many diverse performances it has placed in the spotlight.

Built in 1929 for vaudeville, the Orpheum was the last major construction project in Phoenix before the onset of the Great Depression.

As motion pictures started to dominate the performing arts, the Orpheum earned the nickname, “The Grand Dame of Movies.”

During a 1960s resurgence, Broadway stars and shows of the highest caliber graced its stage.

and following a 12-year, $14 million restoration and renovation, completed in 1997, the Orpheum regained its place as the quintessential Phoenix venue.

Explore a detailed historical account of the Orpheum's storied past

Who's who

The Phoenix Convention Center Department at the City of Phoenix owns and operates the Orpheum.

Friends of the Orpheum provide educational and restoration support through volunteer and fundraising programs.

Star-studded clients

Many organizations regularly bask in the Orpheum's magical glow by holding their performances and events here.

The Orpheum is the Phoenix home to Theater League, Broadway series, and many Live Nation concerts and performances. Local and regional professional production and performance companies and non-profit performing-arts groups also fill the marquee. The Orpheum is a premiere setting for jazz concerts, one-performer comedy shows and much more. Convention, corporate, community and civic functions frequent the facility, as well.
